THE CARDS & SETUP
Zombie Run is composed of a 74 card deck. Within the deck are 15 empty street cards, 15 zombie horde cards, and 45 numbered zombie cards.
The oldest player deals first. They shuffle the cards and deal four cards face down to each player. The deal passes left each round.
The four cards that are dealt are placed face down in a 2×2 grid. This grid is referred to as the player’s hand. The rest of the cards are put face down in the center of the playing area, and they make the draw pile.
Turn the top card of the draw pile over to begin the discard pile.
THE PLAY
At the beginning of the game, each player may look at two cards in their hand. Be sure that opponents cannot see the cards. The player should do their best to remember those two cards. The goal is to have the fewest number of zombies at the end of the game.
On a player’s turn, they draw the top card from the draw pile or the top card from the discard pile. The player decides which card from their hand that they want to switch it with. The card that is removed from the four card hand is placed face up on the discard pile. If a player draws from the draw pile and decides not to keep it, they place that card face up on the discard pile.
Play continues with each player taking their turn as described. A player must draw and discard on their turn. They may not pass.
ENDING THE ROUND
Once a player thinks they have the lowest number of zombies in their hand, they end the round after discarding by shouting I’VE GOT BRAINS!
Each player then turns over all four cards in their hand and counts up their zombie total.
SCORING
Each card has a number on it. Players add up the total value of their cards. Each score for the round is documented on the score sheet.
WINNING
The player with the lowest total number of points wins the round. The player with the lowest total score at the end of the fifth round wins the game.
